Adaptive Re-use of the Hearn Generating Station

Toronto

Ken Greenberg in association with a team including Behnisch Architects was retained in 2007 by Suntower Developments Ltd. to developing concepts for the Hearn Generating Station, the largest and most iconic structure on the Toronto waterfront built in the 1950's as coal fired power generating plant. The plan demonstrates the adaptive re-use potential of this extraordinary complex. Given the strategic location of this facility in the Toronto Portl Lnds the plan also addresses the larger dimensions of integration with the public realm for the Toronto waterfront and in particular adjoining Lake Ontario Park as well as transportation and servicing strategies and solutions.
